Nomenclature:
Bai: hundred Hui: meeting
Baihui is at the vertex, and a meeting place of the three foot-yang meridians, the liver meridian and the governor vessel (dumai).
English name/ meaning: Hundred convergences
Chinese name: 白會
Chinese pinyin: Baihui
Korean name: Paek’oe
Japanese name: Hyakue
Vietnamese name: Bach hoi
French: Pae-roe
Location:
7 cun directly above the midpoint of the posterior hairline, or at the junction of the midline at the vertex with the line joining the two ear apexes.
Functions:
- Extinguishes Liver wind and subdues Liver yang (Headache, dizziness, insomnia, vertigo).
- Clears senses and calms spirit (mental disease, loss of memory, depression).
- Lifts up fallen Yang Qi and discharges blazing heat in Yang channel (prolapse condition, strengthens Yang function of Spleen).
Indications Of Baihui:
- Baihui is the main point to treat dizziness (acupuncture for the Excessive syndrome and moxibustion for Deficiency syndrome)
- Baihui is also the main point to treat diseases fo the brain: insomnia, forgetfulness, stroke, psychosis, epilepsy, various kinds of headache.
- Prolapse of rectum prolapse of stomach or uterus, prolonged diarrhoea.
Method:
- Puncture transversely 0.5-0.8 cun.
- The direction of the tip may change according to the area of a headache.
- Puncture horizontally backwards is most common.
- Apply moxibustion when it is used to raise Yang and lift collapse.
Remarks:
- Crossing Point of the channels of Foot-Shaoyang, Hand-Shaoyang, Foot-Taiyang, Foot-Jueyin, and the Governor Vessel.
- Point of the sea of marrow.
- Main point for dissipating wind and raising Yang.
