Nomenclature:
Jing: eye Ming: Brightness
Jingming is located near the eye and its function is to clear the eye.
Point: BL1
Chinese Name: 睛明
English Name/Meaning: Bright Eyes
Pinyin: jīng míng

Location:
On the face, in the depression slightly superior to the inner canthus.
Functions of Jingming:
- Disperses wind and cools heat.
- Brightens eyes.
- Controls rise of yin and yang to the eyes.
Indication:
Jingming is used for local eye problems like redness, pain, and swelling of the eyes, lacrimation, myopia, blurred vision, dizziness, night blindness, color blindness.
Method:
Keeping the eye closed, the practitioner gently pushes the eyeball to the lateral side. Puncture slowly perpendicularly along the orbital wall for 0.3-0.5 cun. Do not rotate, lift and thrust.
When withdrawing the needle, use a dry cotton ball to press the puncture site to avoid bleeding.
Remarks:
- Entry point.
- Meeting point with the du mai, yin qiao mai, yang qiao mai as well as the ST, S.I., G.B. channels.
- Crossing point of yin qiao vessel.
- Crossing point of yang qiao vessel.
- Main point for eye diseases.
Precaution:
When withdrawing the needle, use a dry cotton ball to press the puncture site to avoid bleeding.
Do not apply moxibustion.
