Location:

1.5 cun lateral to the lower border of the spinous process of the 11th thoracic vertebra.

Functions of pishu:

  • Regulates spleen qi and assist in transformation and transportation. (Helps with digestion).
  • Supports the earth and eliminates dampness (feeling of heaviness , reduced appetite).
  • Nourishes the blood.

Indication:

  • Gastric disorder, such as abdominal distension, chronic diarrhea, dysentery, hematochezia, anorexia.
  • Edema, jaundice.

Method:

Puncture obliquely 0.5-0.8cun.

Remarks:

Back-Shu Point of the Spleen.

Precaution:

Deep perpendicular or needling in a wrong direction carries a substantial risk of causing a pneumothorax.
