Small Intestine Channel of Hand Taiyang- An Introduction
Small Intestine Channel of Hand Taiyang 手太阳小肠经
Small intestine channel of hand taiyang originates from the ulnar side of the tip of the little finger. It goes along the ulnar side of the dorsum of the hand to the wrist, and emerges at the styloid process of the ulna. It then runs upward along the posterior border of the lateral aspect of the forearm, and passes between the olecranon of the ulna and the medial epicondyle of the humerus. Ascending along the posterior border of the lateral aspect of the upper arm, it then reaches and emerges at the shoulder joint and proceeds in a zigzag course along the scapular region, arriving at the top of the shoulder. From there, it descends through the supraclavicular fossa and connects with the heart, going downwards along the esophagus, passing through diaphragm to the stomach, and finally ending at the small intestine.
A branch from the supraclavicular fossa ascends to cross the neck and cheek to the outer canthus of the eye, and finally turns and enters the ear. Another branch separates from the previous branch on the cheek and ascends to the zygomatic bone, reaching the site of nose. It finally terminates at the inner canthus to link with the Bladder Channel of Foot – Taiyang.
Indications of Small Intestine Channel of Hand Taiyang: Head, neck, ears, eyes and throat disease: Febrile diseases, Mental illness, and the conditions along the pathway of the channel.
