Nomenclature:
Yang: Yang of yin-yang Gu: Valley
Yang means the “exterior”. The seam on the exterior aspect of the wrist, where yanggu lies is like a valley.

English Name/Meaning: Yang Valley
Pinyin: yáng gǔ

Location:
On the ulnar border of the hand, in the depression between the base of the fifth metacarpal bone and the triquetral bone.
Functions:
- Disperse heat and swelling (lymphadenopathy).
- Calms the spirit.
Indications:
- Swelling of the neck and submandibular region.
- Pain of the hand and wrist.
- Cough and dyspnea, chills and fever: febrile disease with absence of sweating, chills and fever.
Method:
Perpendicular insertion 0.3 to 0.5 cun.
Remarks:
- Jing-river point.
- Fire point.
- Good point for mumps, gum and throat swelling.
