Nomenclature:

Zhao: To shine       Hai: Sea
Zhaohai pertains to the kidney meridian and the Qi here is as abundant as a sea. It means that the real Yang of the Kidney may illuminate the whole body.

Location:

On the medial side of the foot, in the depression below the tip of the medial malleolus.

Functions:

  • Cools heat (genital itching, urine retention).
  • Calms the spirit (anxiety, mental restlessness from yin deficiency, insomnia).
  • Benefits the throat (sore throat, dry throat, nourishes yin, nourishes fluid).
  • Brightens the eyes (stimulates Yin Qiao to send moisture to eyes).
  • Enriches Kidney yin .

Indication:

  • Zhaohai is beneficial for irregular menstruation, dysmenorrhea, morbid leukorrhea, prolapsed uterus.
  • Also benefits frequent urination, retention of urine, constipation.
  • Sore and dry throat.
  • Insomnia, epilepsy.

Method:

Puncture perpendicularly 0.5-0.8 cun.

Remarks:

One of the Eight Confluent Points associated with the Yin Heel Vessel.
