Nomenclature:

San:two           jian:space/point
The term sanjian refers to the third point of lung meridian.

Location:

This point is on the radial border of the index finger, in a depression just distal to the metacarpophalangeal joint, when a loose fist is made.

Method:

Perpendicular insertion 0.5 to 2 cun, directed towards Houxi SI-3.
Note: needle with the hand in a loose fist position.
Moxibustion is applicable.

Indications of sanjian:

This is one of the important point for disorders of finger joints, toothache. This point also benefits toothache, pain , swelling of throat and fever.

Remark:

Shu stream point .

Precaution:

Needle with the hand in a loose fist position for accurate location and easy needling.
