Nomenclature:

Shang: Upper Xing: Star
The head is considered as the sky. Shangxing is at the head like a star in the sky. This point is in a very yang position on the head and carries the yang qi influence of its association with Du mai/ governor vessel

Location:

Shangxing is located in the midline, 1 cu above the anterior hairline. OR 4 cun anterior to DU20/Baihui.

Method:

Insert transversely 0.5 cun t0 1 cun. Moxibustion can be done.

Indications of Shangxing:

  • Dispels wind and heat from the nose and eyes , so this is useful for various nose and eye conditions like nasosinusitis, rhinitis, nasal blockage, common cold, nasal bleeding, eyepain, sore eyes.etc.
  • Dispels the pathogenic factors from face.
  • Calms shen so is used for various mental ilness line anxiety, depression, epilepsy, infantile convulsion
  • Local disorders like headache, neuralgia, migraine, frontal headache, migraine, headache due to wind.

Remark:

This is 10th of Sun Simiao’s 13 Ghost Points used for the the treatment of psychosis and epilepsy. Also known as Guitang (Ghost Hall).
