Shouwuli is on the upper arm, 5 cun below Tianfu (LU3).

English Name/ Meaning: Five Miles(cun) arm
Pinyin: shǒu wǔ lǐ

Location :

On the lateral side of the upper arm, 3 cun proximal to Quchi (LI11), on the line connecting Quchi (LI11) with Jianyu (LI15).

Functions :

Courses channel and connecting vessels.

Indications of shouwuli :

  • Respiratory problems: Cough blood, SOB.
  • Digestive problems: loss of appetite, borborygmus.
  • Scrofula & goitre (LI 13- LI 18).
  • Lethargy – sleepiness, malaria; regulate Yang Qi.
  • Local problems: pain and stiffness in elbow, numbness in the upper arm, paralysis of the upper arm, elbow joint pain.

Method :

Perpendicular insertion 1 to 1.5 cun.

Precautions :

  • Avoid radial collateral artery and vein.
  • Do not use direct moxa.
