Nomenclature:

Xia: inferior               Lian: edge
Xialian is inferior to Shanglian (LI9) at the dorsal side of the forearm, close to the radial aspect.

Name: Xialian
English: Lower Angle
Pinyin : xià lián
Han Geul 한글: ha ryeom 하렴
Romaji: ge ren(?)
Vietnamese : Hạ liêm

Location:

Xialian is located 4 cun distal to the lateral end of the elbow crease in the direction of the anatomical snuffbox and on a line connecting Yangxi (LI 5 ) and Quchi (LI 11).

Functions and indications  of xialian:

  • Opens the channel and relieves the pain so benefits pain in elbow and arm, motor impairment of the upper limbs.
  • Harmonises the Small Intestine. So, benefits abdominal distension, pain around the umbilicus, indigestion. (in Combination with ST39 and Ren 4 ).
  • Benefits breast, Beneficial in Mastitis, breast swelling and pain.

Method:

Puncture perpendicularly 0.5-1.5 cun.
