Shang: Upper Lian: Edge
Shanglian is superior to Xialian (LI8) at the dorsal side of the forearm, close to the radial aspect.

Location:
Shanglian is located on the line joining Yangxi (LI5) and Auchi (LI11) , 3 cun below the cubital crease.
Functions and indications of shanglian:
- Opens the channel and expels Wind: Respirator disorders: cough, SOB, dyspnea but not the first point of choice.
- Harmonises the Large Intestine: Borborygmus, abdominal pain, constipation and diarrhoea (best combination with ST25, ST37).
- Local disorders: Aching of the Shoulder and arm, Motor impairment of the upper limb, Numbness of the hand and arm, tennis elbow.
Method:
Perpendicular or oblique insertion 0.5 to 1.5 cun.
