Yinbao LR9 : Nomenclature, Location, Functions, Indications



Yin: Yin of yin-yang Bao: womb
Yin here means “interior”. Bao refers to the uterus. Yinbao is at the medial aspect of the thigh and is indicated in treating diseases of the uterus.

Chinese Name: 陰包
Pinyin: yīn bāo
English Name/Meaning: Yin Wrapping
Han Geul 한글: eum bo 음보
Romaji: im pō?
Vietnamese: Âm bao


Directly superior to the medial epicondyle of the femur, 4 cun superior to LIV8, in the cleft between m. vastus medialis and m. sartorius.

Functions and Indications of Yinbao:

  • Removes stagnant Liver Qi so is beneficial in reproductive disorders like irregular menstruation, excessive bleeding, painful menstruation, urinary system disorders, back pain.
  • Local disorders: lower limb pain, hemiplegia.


Perpendicular or oblique insertion 1-2 cun.

He is a registered Doctor in NAMC (Nepal Ayurveda Medical Council ) both as a physician as well as TCM/Acupuncture Specialist.
