Nomenclature:

Zhi: will Shi: chamber
The kidney stores the will. Zhishi is at the level of Shenshu (BL23), like a chamber where the Qi of Kidney gathers.

Chinese Name: 志室
English Name/Meaning: Residence of the Will
Pinyin: zhì shì
Han Geul 한글: ji sil 지실
Romaji: shi shitsu
Vietnamese:Chí thất

Location:

3 cun lateral to the lower border of the spinous process of the 2nd lumbar vertebra.

Functions of Zhishi:

• Supplements the Kidneys and the essence (Nocturnal emission, impotence).
• Regulates urine and dispels damp.
• Reinforces the will power (determination and ambition).

Indication:

• Main point to treat diseases of the urinary system: difficulty of urination, edema.
• Also point for genital system: impotence, seminal emission.
• Stiffness and pain in the back.

Method:

Puncture obliquely 0.5-0.8 cun, but cannot be too deep lest the kidney be hurt.

Precautions:

Deep perpendicular needling carries a risk of injuring the kidney.
