Nomenclature:

You: hiding Men: door
Youmen pertains to the kidney meridian and is located where the lower orifice of the stomach is situated inferiorly. It is hidden in the deep part of the abdomen.
Point: KI21
Chinese Name: 幽门
Name: Youmen
English Name/Meaning: Hidden Gate
Pinyin: yōu mén
Han Geul 한글: yu mun 유문
Romaji: yū mon
Vietnamese: U môn

Location:

6 cun above the umbilicus, 0.5 cun lateral to Juque (REN14).

Functions of youmen:

  • Strengthens the middle jiao, regulates stomach and intestine.
  • Clears blockage in intestine, uterine area.

Indications:

  • Vomiting, abdominal pain, Constipation.
  • Postpartum abdominal pain, infertility.

Method:

Perpendicular insertion 0.5 to 1 cun.

Remarks:

Meeting point of Kidney and chong vessel.

Precautions:

Deep needling, especially in thin subjects, will puncture the liver on the right side and the peritoneum on the left.
