Bu: step Lang: corridor
Bulang lies along the Zhongting (middle courtyard). When the Qi of the meridian flows here, it is stepping into a corridor on either side of a courtyard.

Location:

In the fifth intercostal space, 2 cun lateral to the conception vessel.

Functions and indications of bulang:

  • Opens the chest (asthma, pain in the ribs, rebellious qi).
  • Opens lung and sedates cough (asthma, fullness in the chest, pain from bronchitis).

Method:

Transverse-oblique insertion directed laterally along the intercostal space 0.5 to 1 cun.

Remarks:

Exit point.

Precautions:

Deep perpendicular or oblique needling may puncture the heart, lung and/or liver.
