Nomenclature:

Cheng: to receive Man: fullness
Chengman is on the upper abdomen. The stomach is full when the water and food it takes in have reached this level.
Point: ST-20
Chinese Name: 承满
Name: Chengman
English Name/Meaning: Supporting Fullness
Pinyin: chéng mǎn
Han Geul 한글: seng man 승만
Romaji: shō man
Vietnamese: Thừa mãn

Location:

On the abdomen, 5 cun above the umbilicus, 2 cun lateral to Shangwan (REN13).
On the abdomen, 2 cun lateral to the midline and 5 cun superior to the umbilicus.

Functions and indications of  Chengman:

Regulates the center (middle jiao .i.e. spleen and stomach) and harmonizes the stomach. So is beneficial in gastrointestinal disorders like abdominal distension, vomiting, gastric pain, anorexia.

Method:

Perpendicular insertion 0.5 to 1 cun.

Precautions:

  • In thin subjects, deep needling may penetrate the peritoneal cavity.
  • Deep needling towards right may penetrate an enlarged liver.

He is a registered Doctor in NAMC (Nepal Ayurveda Medical Council ) both as a physician as well as TCM/Acupuncture Specialist.
